Arrival & Fly
You will be received by our team member at TIA. He will transfer you to the 3-star hotel at Thamel in a private vehicle. You can stroll on the road of Thamel in the evening.
The next day we will fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (45 mins) and drive to Kalikhola (9 hrs). Overnight stay at Aakashe, Kalikhola.
Ascent to Thulo Bhanjyang
Our uphill ascent begins from Aakashe. During the monsoon, one should be extra careful because the trekking trail will be slippery; however, one can enjoy free leech therapy on the way.
After an hour hike, we will rest for a while at Tham Danda and enjoy the view. Our first night stay will be at Timbung Pokhari Homestay, Nunthala.
Our tiring uphill trek continues, thanks to the newly upgraded trekking trail which has eased the trekking by half.
During your uphill trek, don’t forget to stop and look back and around for a while.
Passing through yak shelters and forests of rhododendron above the tree line, we will reach Thulo Bhanjyang, Red Panda Guest House for an overnight stay.
Explore Timbung Pokhari
It’s only a km hike to Timbung Pokhari from Thulo Bhanjyang, which takes around 45 mins. One can burn incense and worship at Timbung Pokhari. We can hike up to Timbung Pokhari viewpoint (4650m) for an amazing vista of the Kanchenjunga range, where Rathong and Kabru steal the show including Everest and Makalu. We may visit more than 12 ponds, including Laxmi Pokhari at Sikkim, and return to Thulo Bhanjyang for an overnight stay.
Trekking Through Panchthar District
In this day, we will be walking in Panchthar district, leaving behind the Timbung Pokhari and Taplejung districts. The trail is around 13 km, passing through rhododendron forest, which will take about 6-7 hrs. Mt. Kanchenjunga, Khumbhakarna, Kabru, and Pandim will accompany us on the trek. The amazing view of Mt. Kumbhakarna will be the cherry on top for this trail.
The next day, we will descend and climb, maintaining a steady height, spiraling from one side of the ridge to the other. We will be lucky enough to encounter birds like Himalayan Monal and Blood Pheasant while passing through the forest of rhododendron. We will be camping or enjoy the Ghotstay (stay at yak herder’s hut), experiencing the lifestyle of yak herders at Pahadey Megu and Gairi, respectively. It’s only at Chiwa Bhanjyang (3139m) where we will be staying at a basic tea house. Chiwa Bhanjyang is situated in the no man's land at the border between Nepal and Sikkim, bordering Panchthar district in Nepal and Geyzing and Soreng districts in the Indian state of Sikkim.
Drive & Fly
We will drive from Chiwa Bhanjyang to Ilam and spend our night at Kanyam. We will have a morning hike around the tea garden, then drive to Bhadrapur airport and fly back to Kathmandu.
We will enjoy a farewell dinner while listening to your experiences and feedback.
