Next day our team will prepare a permit. While you can do the sightseeing tour of this fascinating city along with Hindu Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and bustling Durbar Square. “Kathmandu is a place with more temples than houses, more gods and goddesses than people, and more festivals than the number of days in a year” - Sir Kirk Patrick, first-ever Britisher to visit Nepal.
Fly & Drive
We will fly to Bhardrapur (45 min) and drive to Taplejung. On the way, we will have a tea garden tour at Kanyam, Ilam.
Next day we will have an off-road drive to Sekathum (4 hrs) from Taplejung.
Trek, Trek & Trek
From Sekathum, our trek begins. We will be walking 5-6 hrs a day on average, gaining altitude of 500-700m per day. We will walk along the Ghunsa Khola, crossing over many bridges, through forests, and several waterfalls. We might spot the Red Panda on the way to Gyabla from Amjilosa if we are lucky enough.
Passing through the wide range of flora and fauna of Phale will lead us to Ghunsa, the gateway to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp. Normally, trekkers stop at Ghunsa for acclimatization, but we have our acclimatization day at Khambachen.
Acclimatization & Rest Day
March to Pangpema & Descend
After acclimatization & rest day at Khambachen, we will move towards Lhonak, the last settlement with a few teahouses. Leaving our belongings behind at Lhonak, we will move toward the North Base Camp of Mt. Kanchenjunga, also known as Pangpema (5143m). We will catch a glimpse of mesmerizing Kanchenjunga as the reward of multiple days of trekking and return back to Lhonak for an overnight stay.
Then we will descend back to Ghunsa, walking 6.5-7.5 hrs a day.
Descend & Drive Back
We will be descending from Ghunsa to Sekathum. The walk will be longer, passing through the track of the bank of Ghunsa Khola, crossing Phale, Gyabla, and Amjilosa.
Leaving the mountain behind and taking its experience, we will catch our jeep and begin our ride to Kanyam, Ilam.
