Hidden Gems of Kanchenjunga: Discovery of New Lakes Near Yalung

In January 2025, Amir Rai and Manoj Basnet from 'Trek 8586' discovered three previously undocumented lakes near Cheram in the Kanchenjunga region. These pristine lakes are located at an altitude of over 5,000 meters, about a 3.5-hour trek from Cheram. Due to freezing conditions and limited tools, their dimensions remain unclear, but the team released captivating photographs showcasing their beauty.

One lake appears to have split into two because of a recent landslide, leading the explorers to name the largest lake "Trek 8586" and the smaller ones "Daju Bhai" (Brother Lakes). This discovery has the potential to draw tourists to Kanchenjunga’s southern base camp, though accessible trails are needed to make the site visitor-friendly.
